Manaaki Taiao ki Kirikiriroa is both accomplished practitioner and influential advocate in the realm of bicultural science frameworks.
A seven-person team within Manaaki Whenua/Landcare Research (MWLR), Manaaki Taiao ki Kirikiriroa supports the organisation’s commitment to treaty-based research frameworks, actively builds Mātauranga Māori capability of non-Māori colleagues and empowers communities to combine indigenous and western scientific knowledge to achieve their goals. The team’s mahi/work has enhanced monitoring and restoration of repo/wetlands, gullies and streams; successful farming of kānuka on marginal land and many other projects in terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments within and beyond the region. Providing support to other research institutes as well as central and local government, the team is a strong voice for culturally-appropriate natural resource management in Aotearoa.
