Breaking the speed limit for data crunching has earned Alexios Kavallaris a finalist ticket.
Achieving compliance for drainage works on road construction projects requires review and mathematical checking of numerous on-site tests. For the final 22 km stretch of the Waikato Expressway, more than 100,000 tests have been done. Learning that it took 17 minutes to review and check just one test, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s Alexios Kavallaris was determined to find a better way. The result is an automated spreadsheet capable of handling bulk calculations in a couple of clicks, generating Pass/Fail data and giving all users a complete, dynamic view of testing for every pipe installed from the foundation to the top/backfill layer. The time-saving tool can be readily adapted to any construction discipline that needs automated quality assurance.
