As New Product Development Technologist for PharmaNZ, Lucy Yang is on the lookout for innovative health and performance-boosting formulas.
When PharmaNZ receives a brief for a new supplement, Lucy Yang’s research is the starting point. This yields vital information into ingredient benefits, potency and formulation options, as well as discoveries such as combinations that enhance effects or enable an ingredient to serve new purposes. Using natural flavours – like fruit or tea powders – instead of synthetic blockers to mask the unpleasant taste of some functional elements is another of Lucy’s innovations and she has a strong focus on realising the potential of NZ-grown ingredients such as grape-seed extract, kawakawa, kūmarahou and blackcurrant extract. Since the PharmaNZ factory became operational in April 2019, Lucy has undertaken 67 powder/capsule projects (with 38 already in market) and six tablet trials.
