Through clinical research, quality improvement initiatives and education, the Midland Trauma Research Centre (MTRC) aims to reduce the incidence and impact of traumatic injury.
The MTRC team has published numerous important papers on cycling, workplace and on-farm injuries; equity and ethnicity; trauma in the elderly and the experience/impact of trauma on patients and whaanau/family. The MTRC collaborates on the Bionic study (examining the epidemiology of head injuries) and in research with the New Zealand Transport Agency on the nature and causes of motorcycle trauma. Its prolific research output is underpinned by the Midland Trauma Registry, a secure database containing a standardised set of expert-verified trauma data. Regularly engaging the public and policy-makers with its findings, the team helps to improve road safety, prevent injury and enhance the wellbeing of people in the Midland Region.
